Sarah Outen

Ocean Rower : Speaker : Writer

is an amazing woman with an inspirational story to tell.

In Sarah's own words:

I am a 24 year old adventurer, hooked on life and inspiring others to follow their own dreams.

In 2009 I rowed across the Indian Ocean. Alone: just me and my little boat, Dippers. A journey embodying commitment to life and survival in the elements, I rowed over 4000 miles from Australia to Mauritius. On the way I broke 2 oars,  ate 500 bars of chocolate and still lost 20kg bodyweight.  It took me 124 days and we scooped a few Guinness World Records along the way: first woman & youngest person to solo the Indian; youngest woman to solo any ocean. It was raw and elemental -  just as adventure should be.

Since returning to dry land I’ve had the opportunity to speak at a fantastic range of venues, from Windsor Castle to the London Boatshow.  I’ve shared my adventures with corporate audiences as well as students, school children and families.

Here's what others have said after hearing Sarah speak:

‘A really engaging and inspirational woman: once met, never forgotten.’

Clare Holt, Independent producer

‘Without doubt there are many aspects of Sarah’s talk from which any business can learn. I have been fortunate enough to listen to many professional speakers during my career and I would rate Sarah and the way she tells her story among the very best.’

David Yiend, Chief Executive, AB Agri

‘She motivates by her very presence.’

Hugh  Howe, Head Teacher, The Voyager School

Not only does Sarah have a great story to tell, but she's also raising money for a great cause. Part of the ticket price will go to her favourite charity. Here's why it's important to her.

for dad

I  dedicated my Indian Ocean row to the memory of my Dad, Derek Outen. He died very suddenly and unexpectedly in 2006 having suffered from rheumatoid arthritis for nearly 20 years. He was diagnosed when I was just a wee toddler. It is a horrible, devastating disease and affects folk of all ages, from the tinies to the oldies, in various manifestations. It is a painful and debilitating disease of the immune system and while ‘it may not kill you, it can take your life’. He said that the only thing that varied was the intensity of the pain – it was always there. Often it would knock him flat out for days on end. It cut short his career in the Royal Air Force, and it really did take away his life in many ways. Anyone that has seen a relative suffering chronic pain and illness, knows the draining, sickening, gut wrenching feeling of seeing someone they love degenerating and weakened by a seemingly unstoppable force.

Dad and I

But Dad was an unstoppable force, too, in his own right. He was courageous, determined and stubborn in his fight to keep going through the trials and setbacks of operations and illness. Without doubt, he has been and will remain, one of the greatest inspirations in my life. When days were tough out on the ocean, the memory of his courage and spirited fight kept me going and got me to the other side.

My Indian Ocean row raised £30,000 for charities working to represent and support people with arthritis.

This promises to be a fascinating, enjoyable and inspirational event. By joining us on this special evening you'll not only raise your expectations of what's achievable in life, but you'll be helping to support some great work too.

Part of the proceeds of the evening will go to help continue arthritis research, and part will be used by the Rotary Club of Loughborough in its work helping people in the local community, funding well-known charities and assisting its overseas projects including schools in Africa and disaster relief work.

You are warmly invited to join Sarah for a memorable evening hearing her story. Reserve your tickets now to be sure of your seat.

Bring your friends, workmates, family and everyone you know! They'll be glad they came and you'll be helping some great causes.

Please pass on the link to this website to as many people as possible and let them know of this event. Together we'll fill the Hall!

IMPORTANT NOTE: When you buy your ticket(s) via PayPal you'll see the seller is 'Chesterton House Financial Planning Ltd.' This is correct and all proceeds will be passed to the Rotary Club of Loughborough.
